Process: Lightboxes: The original digital photographs are printed on Duratrans using a Lamba printer. Some images have been digitally altered using Photoshop. The exemplary lightboxes were manufactured by one of the project's sponsors: Saitech.

Shadowboxes: The silhouettes are painted on vintage windows. Many of the windows have hand-wrought frames and original vintage drawn glass. Working from original photographs, a negative image is transferred by hand onto the glass. The positive image is applied to the reverse side of the glass. The painting is done in enamel and latex. An appropriate background is developed and the box is sealed.

The shadowbox isolates the object, fetishizing it to some extent and highlighting the complex connectivity that these structures enable. Given the nature of the web, one might say these systems are manifestations of the Internet in the physical world. UrbanTrees Home
